THE HYMNAL: HOW DEEP THE SILENCE OF THE SEA
another day, you forget to die.
again. again. again.
you forgot also to swim
with age. you wonder if maybe
one day you will remember, or sink
& you spill open as communion
does with the shaking of your
brittle hands & black lungs – &
free finally, dripping a little
down to floor to be cleaned
and forgotten. you are water or wine,
not breathed, escaped from,
too vast to condemn or grace.
how deep the sorrow –
how hard the tides, how strong
you must be
to not erode
